These rear tub mud shields are to stop all the mud and road salt from getting around the fuel filler neck & fuel tank (pre Td5`s) and protect the rear outriggers on all newer Defender 90s. Road salt and mud settles on top of the outrigger causing them to rot away, even galvanized chassis do suffer after a while. These mud shields make cleaning your Land Rover easier as the mud can’t get onto the outrigger or around the rear tub, they also cut down the road noise, especially in wet conditions.
They are made from a rigid but still flexible 3mm plastic material in black, the top mounting bracket is made from 2mm galvanised steel and a new Heavy Duty lower tub side stay (equivalent to MUC9220) is supplied to attach the mud shields, the mud shield can also be removed quite easily if you need to work in that area, they come with all bolts and fixings required to fit them.
As you can see in the pictures there are a lot of items in this kit however fitting can be done quite easily, with detailed fitting instructions.
When fitting our mud shield kits we recommend using Morris K48 Moly Grease on all nuts/bolts and on all the steel and galvanized fittings that bolt to alloy as it acts like a barrier to stop corrosion, if brushed onto the galvanized brackets it will help prevent white salt marks that occur from road salt in wet conditions. Stepped Rear Tub – is 2007 on, Puma Td4 that has seats in the very back, the step was put in by Land Rover for rear forward facing seats.
Square Rear Tub – is all 90’s from the beginning and up to 2007, Puma Td4s 2007 on mainly all commercial style ones, like single cab pickups and 3 door hard top van style all have square rear tubs.
